Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 402

This specimen was lot 402 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £1,300 (about US$2,014 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic, 8 reales, Culiacán mint, 1847 CE, repunched '8R' and '184' in date, softly struck, extremely fine and clear, rare." Assayer CE is noted for CE for 1846-70, perhaps the longest term of office for any assayer in the republican mints. This date is rare.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.785 troy oz ASW.
