This specimen was lot 916 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $2,587.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 8 Escudos, 1847-RC. EXTREMELY FINE." The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1824-69 at the Mexico City mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper. This date is slightly scarce, tho many dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
