The first specimen was lot 31204 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1848 C-CE AU55 NGC, Culiacan mint. About Uncirculated with scattered handling marks within the confines of the designation. The 8/7 variety, albeit not indicated in the slab. A desirable example from this much scarcer mint for this denomination: both Gerber and Eliasberg lacked a Culiacan 2 Escudos. From The FoxLair Collection." The second specimen was lot 540 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £240 (about US$372 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic, 2 escudos, Culiacán mint, 1848 CE, fine and clear." The SCWC notes two escudos from this mint for 1846-48 and 1852-57 and awards little premium to the date.
