Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 45341

This specimen was lot 45341 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1861/0-C CE. Culiacan Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. A bold overdate. A bold strike and pleasing burnt orange to russet toning on both sides make this a coin with great eye appeal." This overdate is priced about double the regular date. We also note assayer PV for 1861, a scarce date.
