This specimen was part of lot 73102 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $854. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 2 Reales (10 Pieces), 1855-67. Guanajuato Mint. Average Grade: EXTREMELY FINE. All: KM-374.8. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The Guanajuato mint struck two reales 1835-63 and 1867-70. Assayer PF served 1848-61. Overdates 1861/0, 1861/51 and 1861/57 are noted but none are awarded any premium. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. The 1861-MoCH is the only date of two reales that is reasonably common in high grade, the result of the dispersal of a hoard.
