This specimen was lot 31232 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $940. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Escudos 1861 Mo-CH XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint. Another very scarce date in a pleasant, unflawed and relatively high condition. Also missing in the Gerber, Norweb and Eliasberg groups and decidedly elusive. From The FoxLair Collection." The Mexico City mint issued this denomination sporadically 1825-32, 1844, 1850, 1856-63 and 1868-69, with this date listed as common for the type.
