Shown is an 1861MoCH 2 reales, one of a type struck 1825-72. It was lot 531 in Ponterio sale 135. Assayer CH is recorded at the Mexico City mint for the years 1861-68. Other mints include Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Alamos, Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. The 1861MoCH is the only date of two reales that is reasonably common in high grade, the result of the dispersal of a hoard.
