Mexico 1861-Do CP 8 escudos

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 21185

This specimen was lot 21185 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1861/0-DoCP. NGC AU-58. VERY RARE date, missing from most collections including Gerber and Norweb. Light adjustment marks but strong luster and a good strike on the reverse. A whisper of rub away from being fully Uncirculated. Highly lustrous and quite attractive." Durango is a common mint for eight escudos but many dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
