The specimen shown was struck in Guadalajara, which issued this type 1835-70. Rollo[1] notes this date as "relatively common," and claims that the reported 1861/0 and 1861/59 overdates are actually the same blundered date from a die that may have originally been an 1858. The author notes one die marriage. The dispersal of a small hoard makes this one of the few dates available in nice condition. Two escudos as a group are nearly as scarce as the four escudos.
