This specimen was lot 25337 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,322.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1860/50Ga-JG, MS62 NGC Caballero de las Yndias, nicely toned with minor handling in the fields. Very scarce in mint state." Guadalajara, along with Mexico City, was the major producer of gold two escudos. Culiacan and Guanajuato, both major emitters of gold, concentrated on other denominations.
Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
