Mexico 1860-Do CP 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 6964

This specimen was lot 6964 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $235. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1860-DoCP. NGC MS-63. Tied with two other examples at this numeric grade with only two pieces certified finer (MS-64). From the Estate Collection of Dr. Richard Doty." The Durango mint struck eight reales 1824-95 and this date is listed as fairly common. An 1860/59 overdate earns a premium.
