Mexico 1860-Go PF 2 escudos

from Stack's Bowers 2016 ANA sale, lot 22724

This specimen was lot 22724 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Escudos, 1860-GoPF. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. The date should be closely scrutinized as there appears to be an underdate of some type whether it is a 60/50 or 60/59, PCGS declined to make either distinction on the slab tag. A very attractive example with considerable original luster, some light adjustment marks and light toning in the fields." The Guanajuato mint struck this type in 1845, 1849, 1853, 1856, 1859-60 and 1862. None of its issues are particularly abundant but Guanajuato is probably the fourth commonest mint after Mexico City, Guadalajara and Culiacan.
