Mexico 1860-Mo TH escudo

This specimen was lot 1342 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $345. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"MEXICO. Republic. Escudo, 1860 Mo TH. Mexico City. Hand inscribing law book with quill and Liberty Cap. Rv. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Lustrous and attractive with smooth surfaces, good eye appeal and some reflectivity. This date is listed as scarce or rare in most references but none have been offered at public or private sale according to Richard A. Long. A rarity of the highest importance as this issue has obviously been overlooked for many years. The strike is sharp enough, die dot in field just right of the beak from some engraving blunder. An important opportunity that may not repeat until this coin is offered again. Choice Extremely Fine."

The Mexico City mint struck this type 1825-69 and this date is priced by the SCWC only 25% higher than a common issue such as 1825-Mo.
