Stack's Bowers February 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74624

This specimen was lot 74624 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1860/9-C PV. Culiacan Mint. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Unc Details. Over-assayer Variety PV/CV, as well as an overdate on the last digit of the date. The strike is bold and the fields are a frosty silver hue, with some color in the protected areas. The scratch is across the eagle." The Culiacan mint struck eight reales 1846-97 and this date is available tho not common. Mintmaster PV (shown here) is priced about 25% higher than the other mintmaster for the year, CE.
