This specimen was part of lot 72428 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $317.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Nonet of Reales (9 Pieces), 1841-61. San Luis Potosi Mint. Grade Range: FINE to EF Details. 1) 1841-Pi JS. 2) 1842-Pi PS. 3) 1843-Pi PS. 4) 1845-Pi AM. 5) 1847/6-Pi AM. 6) 1848/7-Pi AM. 7) 1851/0-Pi MC. 8) 1860/9-Pi PS. 9) 1861-Pi PS. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Alamos, Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck one reales 1831 and 1837-62 and quite a few dates are rare. Assayer PS (Pompaso Sanabria) is recorded for most of those years. The SCWC notes this overdate as 1860/59, rather than 1860/9. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a "bit", is common in low grade. There are no common dates in uncirculated.
