Mexico 1860-C PV real

from Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72275

This specimen was lot 72275 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,037. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1860-C PV. Culiacan Mint. NGC MS-64. Two year assayer. Finest and only Mint State of just two examples graded by NGC. Very scarce condition or this mint. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Alamos, Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Culiacan mint struck one reales 1846-63 and 1869. Most of the early dates are scarce while the 1863 is very rare. Assayer PV served 1860-61. The SCWC notes an 1860/9-C PV/N variety.
