Mexico 1860-Mo TH 8 escudos

This specimen was lot 1288 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,300. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"MEXICO. Republic. 8 Escudos, 1860 Mo TH. Mexico City. Hand inscribing law book with quill and Liberty Cap. Rv. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Pleasing copper-gold accents around the rims, the strike is generally sharp on all but a few of the breast feathers and some lustre resides in the lettering. A well-made example from this mint and worthy of an advanced collection. Very scarce today as an issue, and better than most seen from this limited date. About Uncirculated."

The Mexico City mint struck eight escudos 1824-69 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common.
