Mexico 1859-Mo FH 8 escudos

The Mexico City mint struck eight escudos 1824-69 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common. This specimen was lot 40266 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 8 Escudos, 1859-MoFH. NGC AU-53."

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
