Mexico 1859/8-Ga JG 4 reales

Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 354

This specimen was lot 354 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £1,400 (about US$2,168 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic, 4 reales, Guadalajara mint, 1859/8 JG, softly struck at centre but mint state, with rich multicoloured toning, rare thus." This issue is only known with the overdate. It is a better date but not rare like many others from Guadalajara. This specimen was offered again as lot 73213 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $5,856.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.3925 troy oz ASW.
