This specimen was lot 31214 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1859 Mo-FH AU50 NGC, Mexico City mint. Choice Extremely Fine and very attractive for the designation, with engaging color and high quality surfaces. A very rare date with only a handful of confirmed specimens. An MS62 NGC example of this date - obviously unknown to Long, who only recorded three examples graded VF, XF and AU (this coin?) - hammered for $7,000 in Ponterio's 1/2011 auction (lot 140). That and the present coin are the only two specimens graded by NGC. A rare opportunity to acquire an attractive example of this rarity. From The FoxLair Collection." Guadalajara, along with Mexico City, was the major producer of gold two escudos. Culiacan and Guanajuato, both major emitters of gold, concentrated on other denominations.
