This specimen was lot 72684 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1859-Zs MO. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS AU-53. Bright pewter gray patina decorates original surfaces that sill retain ample mint luster for the grade. Some light wear is evident across the cap and over the eagle's breast, but virtually all detail is intact. A seldom offered date and mintmark combination that will receive attention from specialists." Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato mint as the largest issuer of eight reales. Assayer MO operated 1855-60, 1863-65 and VL 1859-64.
