Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42676

This specimen was lot 42676 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1858-Zs MO. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-61." Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato mint as the largest issuer of eight reales. Assayer MO operated 1855-60, 1863-65 and VL 1859-64. An 1858/7 overdate is noted for the year but is awarded no premium.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
