The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos 1846-70 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common. This specimen was lot 3660 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Escudos, 1858-C CE. Hand on book. Struck softly in centers. NGC graded AU-58."
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
