Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73151

This specimen was lot 73151 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,586. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1858-Pi MC. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Very scarce date. Second finest of only two graded by NGC. Lustrous and well struck. Adjustment marks on obverse. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck two reales 1829-30, 1837, 1841-46, 1849-50, 1856-63 and 1868-69, with a number of rare dates. Assayer MC (Mariano Catano) operated 1849-59. The SCWC notes this as a better date but not rare like the 1857 or 1859.
