This specimen was lot 73180 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,464. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1858-Zs MO. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-63. Highest and only Mint State graded by NGC. Next best is EF Details. Bright luster with light toning. Some softness in center. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The Zacatecas mint struck two reales 1827, 1850-56, 1859-63 and 1867-68. Assayer MO (Manuel Ochoa) served 1855-60. No varieties are listed for the year. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated.
