Stack's Bowers February 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73358

This specimen was lot 73358 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1858-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details. A satisfying example for this SCARCE date that retains its bold strike despite some circulation wear and cleaning. Small flan crack at 12 o'clock, otherwise fully formed and presentable." The Guadalajara mint struck four reales sporadically 1843-50, 1855-63 and many dates are scarce to rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce, verging on rare.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
