This specimen was lot 31252 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $4,259.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1858 Do-CP MS62 NGC, Durango mint. Lustrous Mint State with much mint bloom and a most attractive specimen. Also rare in this preservation and currently the second highest example graded by NGC. From The Law Collection." The Durango mint struck eight escudos 1832-70 and is one of the abundant mints tho less so than Culiacan or Guanajuato; many dates are common. The eagle is distinctive to Durango and can be found on all the silver and gold denominations.
