This specimen was lot 31251 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1857 Do-CP MS63 NGC, Durango mint. Choice Mint State with frosty surfaces and strong detail on the eagle's breast. A premium example for this designation and mint and worthy of a strong bid. From The Law Collection." The Durango mint struck eight escudos 1832-70 and is one of the abundant mints tho less so than Culiacan or Guanajuato; many dates are common. The eagle is distinctive to Durango and can be found on all the silver and gold denominations.
