The first specimen was lot 2514 in Goldberg sale 103 (Los Angeles, February 2018), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 1 Escudo, 1857-Ga JG. Hand on book. Lovely mint brilliance. Only specimen graded. NGC graded MS-63." The Guadalajara mint struck this type 1825-35, 1842-60; the SCWC prices this date only slightly higher than a common Mexico City issue.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
