This specimen was lot 72360 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1857-Go PF. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield. Though obviously spending a good deal of time in circulation, this gunmetal gray minor is otherwise rather wholesome and original, save for a light abrasion near the upper left portion of the rays." Shown is an 1857-Go PF 4 reales, one of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1830-70. Assayer MO is recorded for 1855-60. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a slightly better date.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .392 troy oz ASW.
