Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 7303760

The first specimen was lot 345 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £100 (about US$155 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic, 2 reales, Guadalajara mint, 1857 JG, fine and rare." The second specimen was lot 73060 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $561.20. The catalog description^[2] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1857-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF-25. Very scarce date. Finest of only three examples graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The Guadalajara mint struck two reales 1825-62 and many dates are fairly common but this one is rare. No varieties are noted.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a very scarce date.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.196 troy oz ASW.
