Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72398

This specimen was lot 72398 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1857-Mo GF. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU Details--Scratches. Very scarce date. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Mexico City mint struck this denomination 1825-33, 1850-63 and most dates, including this one, are common. Assayer GF is listed for 1855-57. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated.
