Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72274

This specimen was lot 72274 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $341.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1857/4-C CE. Culiacan Mint. NGC EF-45. Last year of Sonora dies. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Culiacan mint struck one reales 1846-63 and 1869. Most of the early dates are scarce while the 1863 is very rare. Assayer CE (Clemente Espinosa) served 1846-70. The SCWC reports 1857/4 and 1857/6 overdates but no regular dates.
