Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72122

This specimen was lot 72122 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $512.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1857-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC MS-63. Highest graded of just two examples at NGC. Toned. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Guadalajara mint struck half reales 1825-62 and quite a few dates are rare although the SCWC lists this one as common. Assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman) is recorded for 1836-67.
