Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72371

This specimen was lot 72371 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $463.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1857-Go PF. Guanajuato Mint. NGC MS-63. Overdate not noted by NGC. If correctly attributed, it would be the finest of two graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Guanajuato mint struck one reales 1826-62 and 1867-68. Assayer PF served 1848-61. The SCWC lists this date as common and mentions the 1857/6 overdate. This example was struck from such worn dies that we can't see the overdate if present.
