The first specimen was lot 23317 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1861-GaJG. Guadalajara Mint. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Unc Details Secure Holder. Tooling appears on the arm as well as in the surrounding fields." A half escudo of the Guadalajara mint, which struck this denomination 1825-61. The second specimen was lot 70316 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1861-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC MS-63. A beautiful example with a bright luster and strong eye appeal."
