This specimen was lot 3563 in Goldberg sale 53 (Beverly Hills, May 2009), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. ½ Real, 1861-Mo CH. Republic. Cap and rays. Deep blue and reddish toning. NGC graded MS-66." This date is one of the most common for the type but examples of this quality always bring a premium. The type was struck at Mexico City 1825-63 with assayer CH recorded for 1861-69.
