This specimen was lot 919 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1861/0-GoPF. Lustrous. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." The Guanajuato mint struck eight escudos of this type 1828-70 and is one of the abundant mints for this denomination. The regular date and the 1861/0 overdate are both common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
