This specimen was lot 73315 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $170.80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1862/1-Zs VL. Zacatecas Mint. NGC AU Details--Obverse Scratched. Second finest of three examples graded at NGC. Sharply struck with bright luster. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Alamos, Chihuahua, Estado de Mexico and Durango did not strike this type. The Zacatecas mint struck four reales 1830-64, 1868-70. Assayer VL (Vicente Larranaga) is listed for 1860-66. This overdate is mentioned in the SCWC but not awarded any premium over the regular date. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a half dollar, is common up thru Very Fine.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
