from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 3151

This specimen was lot 3151 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Escudos, 1862-GoYE. NGC MS-61. Pleasing flashy example from the final year for type at Guanajuato. Bold strike with a touch of weakness at very centers as is not uncommon. Toned an eye catching red-orange with strong luster beaming out of the unfettered surfaces. Great eye appeal." Altho Guanajuato was a substantial producer of gold, its output of two escudos was limited and most dates are rare.
