from Stack's Bowers 2016 ANA sale, lot 22729

This specimen was lot 22729 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $517. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1862-MoCH. PCGS MS-61 Secure Holder. A very striking coin when looked upon with strong luster on all of the surfaces. Some light chatter in the fields can be noted but otherwise an attractive example with no detracting marks or wear. Well toned with golden orange hues in the protected areas." The Mexico City mint struck this type 1825-69 and this date is priced by the SCWC as a common issue.
