Mexico 1862-Zs VL 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23398

This specimen was lot 23398 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1862-ZsVL. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Lustrous with gorgeous orange tone in the centers and aqua and lavender color in the peripheries. VERY SCARCE; the single finest example graded at PCGS or NGC." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is common. Assayer VL is recorded for 1859-64. An 1862/1 overdate is noted for the year.
