Mexico 1863-Zs MO 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71266

This specimen was lot 71266 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1863-ZsMO. NGC MS-62. Weak strike in the centers as usual for this date. Full frosty mint luster with faint champagne toning on the obverse." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is common. Assayer VL is recorded for 1859-64; assayer MO is also recorded for 1855-60 and 1863-65.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
