This specimen was lot 31213 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Escudos 1863/1 Ga-JG MS65 NGC, Guadalajara mint. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated, and among the very finest seen of the date and type by the cataloguer. An outstanding type coin that is currently the finest certified example by NGC by three full grades and should draw serious attention. From The FoxLair Collection." Guadalajara, along with Mexico City, was the major producer of gold two escudos. Culiacan and Guanajuato, both major emitters of gold, concentrated on other denominations.
