This specimen was lot 71238 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1863-Ca JC. Chihuahua Mint. NGC MS-63. An unusually choice specimen from the provincial mint of Chihuahua. This mint offers today few coins at this lofty grade designation. Sepia toning with exemplary underlying luster." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1832-95 and this date is somewhat scarce. Dunigan and Parker note that this date is available up thru uncirculated. Assayer JC operated 1857-66.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
