This specimen was lot 73320 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1863-Mo TH. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-65. This remarkable survivor preserves Gem-level detail and a stunning cameo contrast between the flashy fields and delicate matte devices. Deep gray tone with enticing iridescent highlights. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. The 1861MoCH is the only date of two reales that is reasonably common in high grade, the result of the dispersal of a hoard. Assayers CH (1861-68) and TH (1860-63) are both recorded as common for 1863.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-374.10.
