Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72150

This specimen was lot 72150 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $195.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1848-Go PF/M. Guanajuato Mint. NGC MS-61. Very scarce assayer. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. This specimen was struck at the Guanajuato mint 1826-68. Varieties for the year include 1848/35-PM, 1848-PF/M (shown here) and the regular 1848-PM. None are awarded any premium in the SCWC. Assayer PM (Patrick Murphy) served 1842-48 and assayer PF served 1848-61.
