Mexico 1842/32-Do RM 8 escudos

This specimen was lot 32707 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $3,240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico: Republic gold 8 Escudos 1842/32 Do-RM AU55 NGC, Durango mint. A quality example of this elusive Durango 8 Escudos overdate, one of the two of its kind located on the NGC Population Reports. Though the obverse is quite weakly struck, which is not uncommon, the reverse is a bit stronger but more importantly, the light dusky patina is superb and there are no major hits to the coin." While Durango mint eight escudos are not rare, uncirculated eight escudos of Durango are not common compared to those of Mexico City. All known specimens of this date bear the overdate.
