This specimen was part of lot 73249 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $439.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Octet of 4 Reales (8 Pieces), 1835-58. Guanajuato Mint. Grade Range: VERY GOOD to VERY FINE. 1) 1835-Go PJ. 2) 1836-Go PJ. 3) 1837-Go PJ. 4) 1840/30-Go PJ. 5) 1842-Go PM. 6) 1849-Go PF. 7) 1853-Go PF. 8) 1858-Go PF. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Both assayers PM (shown here) and PJ are listed from Guanajuato for 1842 but the 1842-PJ is very rare. Assayer PM (Patrick Murphy) is recorded for 1842-48. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint.
