Mexico 1842-Pi PS 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71264

This specimen was lot 71264 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1842-Pi PS. Potosi Mint. NGC MS-61. An engaging cap and ray 8 Reales from the San Luis Potosí mint. Certified mint state and highly sought after thus." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This date is rather common. Assayer JS is recorded for 1827-42 and assayer PS for 1842-60. The SCWC prices JS, PS and PS/JS the same.
